Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Hair Injections

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Hair Injections

Category : Our Services

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, also known as the ‘Vampire Facelift’ or ‘Dracula Therapy’, works on the basis that the body’s own natural healing powers may slow and even reverse the ageing process – it’s a revolutionary repair system that places growth factors in the exact location where we want the skin to repair and rejuvenate itself.

Platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” – proteins that help to heal injured tissue or damaged skin. Upon re-injection the platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin.

Blood (a small amount) is taken from the patient during the treatment, then treated (in a centrifuge) to harvest the platelet rich plasma which will be activated and re-injected into the desired area. The therapy is said to plump skin, fill out fine lines and wrinkles, and give an overall more radiant appearance.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy and how does it work?

PRP therapy involves harvesting platelets from the patient’s own blood in order to inject them into problem skin areas, giving it the nicknames Vampire Facelift and Dracula Therapy. Before the procedure, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient and put into a centrifuge, where the blood is spun in order to separate the red blood cells from the platelet plasma. The platelet plasma, which is the component of the blood that is known for being highly effective in treating burns and skin injuries, is then activated and injected into the chosen area, where it plumps up the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

When the platelet plasma is injected into the skin, the platelets release their growth factors. The growth factors stimulate other cells surrounding the injection site, plumping them up and causing them to increase in volume. The platelet plasma sends out signals to other cells in the body when it is injected, telling them to rush forward to the injection site.

One cell that is stimulated during the process is the fibroblast cell, which is the cell type that creates collagen. Collagen is what gives skin a youthful appearance. As we age, collagen is produced less and less, causing wrinkles and fine lines in the skin, and therapies such as PRP therapy that stimulate collagen production can counteract this. Another cell stimulated during the process is the pre-adipocyte cell, which is a cell type that can convert into a fat cell, which is especially important in the face to fill out lines and to contour the face.

Which areas can be treated?

PRP therapy can be used on the face, particularly around the eyes, mouth and nose, the backs of the hands, scars and all over the body, more commonly the décolletage and even the knees to give skin a more youthful and radiant appearance.

What does the procedure involve?

After a consultation with our specialist cosmetic doctors, your practitioner will draw 10-20ml of blood. This is done in a similar way to when you have blood taken for testing at the doctor’s office.

The blood will then be spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet plasma from the red blood cells using one of the branded systems described.

Any makeup on the skin will be removed using a wipe, and antiseptic will be applied to the injection site. A topical local anaesthetic will then be applied to the skin of the injection site for 20-30 minutes.

The PRP will then be injected into the skin, with aseptic technique, in the desired area using a very fine needle. Injections will be given multiple times in multiple locations in order to give an overall improvement to the area.

The whole procedure usually takes about 1 hour.

When will I see results ?

It may take a few weeks for the results of the PRP therapy to become visible, but with two to three top-up treatments, you can expect the results of PRP therapy to last for up to one and a half years.

How long will it take to recover from a PRP treatment?

Recovery time is minimal with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, much like a visit to the doctor for a blood test. The actual procedure of reinjection of the PRP involves the use of topical anaesthetic, although not always depending on the patient and area being treated, rather than local or general anaesthetic, meaning that most patients feel comfortable returning to their normal activities straight after the treatment or within a short while.

What are the risks and potential complications from PRP treatments?

There are few side effects associated with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. Immediately after the procedure, you can expect some bruising, swelling and redness at the injection sites. You may also experience some tenderness, bruise and pain at the injection sites. However, any side effects should dissipate within a few days following the procedure.

What should you do after a Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy treatment?

It is very important that you follow the advice of your physician following treatment. Post-treatment advice could include:

The use of cold compresses to treat swelling in the treated area, as recommended
Avoid touching and applying any cream or make up for 6 hrs after the treatment to prevent risk of infection.
Most patients will be able to go straight back to their normal regime following treatment, but if you experience any tenderness or pain at the treatment site, you should take extra care when washing and caring for your skin in the days following the PRP therapy.

Who should NOT have a Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy treatment?

To undergo PRP therapy, you should be in general good health and you should have realistic expectations of the outcome. Most people are suitable candidates for PRP therapy, and it is recommended as a safe treatment for individuals who are unable to undergo more invasive procedures such as a full face lift, due to the risks associated with general anaesthetic (although it will not achieve the same results as a surgical face lift).

Individuals with platelet dysfunction syndrome, critical thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenaemia, haemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute & chronic infections and chronic liver pathology are not suitable candidates for PRP therapy.

Those undergoing anti-coagulant therapy are also not suitable candidates.

Port Wine Stains

A port wine stain is a persistent dark red to purple congenital vascular malformation, which is a superficial, noncancerous growth that forms due to an abnormal collection of blood vessels. In a simpler form, a red or purple birthmark.

Port wine stains occur in about 3 out of 1000 people. Usually present from birth, the port wine stain occurs as a birthmark that generally grows on the face but can appear anywhere on the body. They persist throughout life and the area of skin directly affected grows in proportion to general growth. Port wines stains affect both male and females equally and have found not to be hereditary.

What causes a Port Wine Stain?

The most tentative explanation for the development of a Port Wine Stain is the lack of or absence of surrounding nerve impulses regulating blood flow throughout the capillary network. As a result the blood vessels and capillaries are unable to constrict and remain permanently dilated allowing blood to stagnate in the affected area.

What happens if I leave it untreated?

In some cases, If left untreated, a Port Wine Stain can results in both physical and psychological trauma.
Physical: due to the increased tissue mass as a port wine stain/affected patient ages as well as increased vascular nodule development, the affected PWS is more susceptible to bleeding or haemorrhaging and facial features can be distorted.
Psychological: if the PWS is on the face or other highly visible part of the body, its presence can also cause emotional and social problems for the affected patient.

How does treatment work?

Short, safe bursts of light are directed at the skin. These may be visible Intense Pulsed Light), depending on the type of Port Wine Stain you want treated. The system filters the light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood in your problem vessels. The light is converted to heat, which destroys the protein in the wall of the vessels, causing the vessels to gradually disappear after treatment. To ensure the best light transmission, a thin layer of gel (like that used in ultrasound examinations) is applied to your skin before treatment.

How long does an Ellipse treatment take?

The treatment time depends on the area to be covered and the number of distinct vessels to be treated. A single session typically lasts 15-30 minutes.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

  • It is, important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning products) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective and less comfortable.
  • It is also a good idea to avoid smoking in the 4 hours prior to treatment. Generally, no special care is necessary after treatment, but people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold compress (a cold damp cloth) to the area immediately after treatment or from using an ointment prescribed by the doctor.
  • After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area.
  • Use sun protection (minimum SPF 30) if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments depends on location and number of the vessels to be treated. Generally it ranges between 4-10 treatments.

Does the treatment hurt?

No anaesthetics are required, and many patients describe the treatment as being like a snap from a rubber band followed by a sensation similar to the feeling of gentle sunburn.

PDO Thread Lifting

Category : Our Services

What is a PDO Thread ?

PDO (Polydioxanone) thread is a strong filament fibre, consisting of a few twisted solid fiber thread, which dissolves in the body tissue after a certain time (usually 6-8months)

PDO ultimately breaks down into water and carbon dioxide which are naturally absorbed into skin.

PDO cause a very mild reaction during absorption, minimal acute inflammatory reaction with subsequent formation of new collagen production around the thread (neo collagenesis).

Who is suitable for PDO Thread Lift?

The procedure is suitable for most people from 25 onwards, when the effects of ageing become apparent. Ageing causes the skin tissue to thin because the collagen and elastin fibres break down, which results in sagging skin, deep creases, folds and wrinkles. PDO threads reverse the effects of ageing and improve the quality of skin.

If the patient does not want to have a face lift surgery, thread lift can be a very effective alternative. Threads are implanted into the sub-dermal skin and stimulate the production of collagen and the skin becomes firmer, elastic and moisturised. The thread dissolves itself in few months but the effect lasts longer than the regular dermal filler.

Where are the treated areas for PDO Thread Lift?

The thread can be applied to anywhere on the face and body, such as a flabby face, cheeks, eyebrows, to prevent eye bags, sagging neck skin, fine lines around cheeks, angle around the mouth, laugh lines, forearm and abdomen, smokers lines and lifting of the breast.

Skin  Peel

Many skin problems are associated with an excessive build up of dead skin cells, which make the skin thick and dull, usually clogging the pores.

Skin peels can offer a revolutionary way to effectively treat ageing skin, acne, reduce sun damage and hyper pigmentation. This procedure can also help the skin to appear smoother, healthier, plumper and tighter.

What are chemical peels and how do they work?

The procedure involves the application of a chemical solution to the surface of the skin to produce the careful removal of its outer layers. The amount of skin removed will depend on the type of chemical used, the strength of this product and how long it is left on the skin.

Chemical peels are usually described according to how deep they work on the skin. Below are some examples of the type of peels and the kind of language you can expect to hear used when discussing chemical peels.

SUPERFICIAL PEELS ( Glycolic acid such as Neostratra glycolic acid peel)
Remove the outer layer of the skin or the “epidermal layers”.

Remove the skin slightly deeper than epidermal layer.

MEDIUM DEPTH PEELS ( Trichloroacetic acid such as Obagi Blue peel)
Remove both the epidermal layers and upper dermal layers.

Hyperpigmentation is defined as excess pigmentation in a bodily part or tissue, including the skin.
Hyperpigmentation removal treatments target darkened areas of your skin, which may be a result of hormones, sun damage, injuries, your skin type, medications or acne. For example, melasma, sometimes called “the mask of pregnancy”. It is marked by brown to gray-brown patches on the face that occur as a result of hormonal changes associated with pregnancy or run in family.

What are causes of Hyperpigmentation?

Many forms of hyper – pigmentation are caused by an excess production of melanin. Hyper – pigmentation can be diffuse or focal, affecting such areas as the face and the back of the hands. Melanin is produced by melanocytes at the lower layer of the epidermis. Melanin is a class of pigment responsible for producing color in the body in places such as the eyes, skin, and hair. As the body ages, melanocyte distribution becomes less diffuse and its regulation less controlled by the body. UV light stimulates melanocyte activity, and where concentrations of the cells are denser than surrounding areas, hyper – pigmentation is effected.

Hyper – pigmentation may be caused by sun damage, inflammation, hormone, or other skin injuries, including those related to acne that induce excessive melanin production. People with darker Asian, Mediterranean or African skin tones are also more prone to hyper – pigmentation, especially if they have excess sun exposure.

How to treat hyper pigmentation?

How you treat your hyper – pigmentation is based on its cause, your aesthetic goals and your skin type. The first step is to consult with our dermatologist to determine the cause of your hyper – pigmentation. She will examine your skin, take a thorough medical history and suggest a treatment strategy based on these findings. She will also discuss the risks, costs and recovery period associated with any recommended hyper  – pigmentation removal procedures.

Treatment options may involve the use of bleaching creams or a change in your skin care routine.  Some options may be as simple as switching your current medication to an alternative that does not affect your skin tone; others may be more invasive.

available treatments for hyper – pigmentation:

1-Topical medication cream.

Hydroquinone: it has been prescribed by doctor as a gold standard treatment for hyperpigmentation. It is a bleaching agent that reduce melanin production. Melanin is the pigment  that give our skin color. Sometimes they are combined with other products such as Retin-A to achieve the desired effects.

Retin-A: This medication is a prescription topical retinoid (derived from Vitamin A) that exfoliates skin and speeds up new skin cell growth, diminishing dark, uneven skin patches along the way. It is available in several strengths and is often prescribed in a step-up fashion. It may be prescribed with hydroquinone or another bleaching agent.

Other exfoliating cream: Phytic acid or glycolic acid for example. They also exfoliate skin and speeds up new skin cell growth, diminishing dark, uneven skin patches. It is available in several strengths and is often prescribed in a step-up fashion too.

2-Chemical peel.

The procedure involves the application of a chemical solution to the surface of the skin to produce the careful removal of its outer layers which contain old dull skin cell and pigmentation. Allow the skin to reproduce new younger cell and collagen in more organize pattern, leave you with clear porcelain skin. The amount of skin removed will depend on the type of chemical used, the strength of this product and how long it is left on the skin.

Laser Hair Removal Devices used in our centres

The combination of the last technology DİODE, ALEXANDRİTE and ND: YAG long- pulsed devices as main and complementary treatment assures maximum effectives. Furthermore, a specific treatment depending on the skin type and hair structure is applied under the supervision of dermatologists, specialists in this field.

In our centres we use FDA approved DIODE, ALEXANDRITE APOGEE 5500, ND: YAG LAZER systems.

Laser hair removal must be carried out in accordance with existing medical facts. Realistic information regardless of commercial interest and so-called warranties and promises about any exact/definitive result of laser hair removal procedures must be provided, patients must not be misled.

When making a choice among Laser Hair Removal Centres what aspects you must be careful about?

Firstly, you must definitely choose a deeply experienced centre in this field. You must be aware of the fact that, plenty of non-experts in laser hair removal treatment have opened places applying this procedure at the pure aim of commercial gain. In this centres, non-scientific and unethical practices are used, at the aim of generating income at the shortest of time, leaving patients as potential victims. Due to unprofessional laser hair removal, not only unwanted hair does not reduce or get thinner, but unfortunately cases of paradoxical increase in hair growth, post-treatment burnt areas and injuries are increasing. The increase of lawsuits of patients in this field lead the Ministry of Health approve the use of laser hair removal devices as well as the practice of  carried procedures  only in doctor-owned large scale medical organizations, speeding up the procedure of license cancellation concerning the increasing number of laser hair removal practicing centres with a pure commercial aim.

Is laser hair removal procedure painless?

The treatment is described as the feeling of an elastic band being snapped against your skin when the laser thermal energy touches the skin surface. The deep cold air flow, applied in order to protect the skin, helps reducing the feeling of pain. Furthermore, possible damage over the epidermis due to concentrated laser energy is avoided thanks to the cooled skin surface.

The area to be treated must be cleaned-up carefully before the procedure. (Yukarıda da bahsedildiği gibi )Sun protection of the skin before and after the procedure is rather important. This protection must even be extremely important when it comes to areas usually exposed to sunlight- such as the face, neck and arm areas. Once the laser procedure is terminated, cold-water showers as well as exfoliating skin procedures must be avoided as possible factors for skin irritation. Skin care varies according to the laser applied area specifications. Your doctor will explain you the skin care procedures in details.

How does skin look like after the laser treatment?

Just after the laser hair removal treatment a burning sensation similar to mild sunburn as well as redness may occur lasting no longer than few hours.

Important facts and applications needed for the laser hair removal procedure

  • Completion of the maturation period of hair must be achieved
  • For body hair removal 4-6 sessions with an average two months period between each session; for thinner hair over the face area  6-12 sessions with a month period between sessions will be required
  • The number of sessions vary from a patient to another according to hair structure
  • Buffed hair follicles with the Alexandrite laser hair removal device are no longer suitable of producing hair in future
  • Laser hair removal must be carried out in accordance with medical facts and ethical practices. Sessions with short intervals with a pure commercial purpose must be avoided. Patients must not be fooled by false so-called warranties or promises of results, impossible to be achieved.
  • It is important that an effective dose of laser strength is applied, instead of a lower dose at the aim of increasing the number of sessions as a commercial approach.

Can laser hair removal cause any health problems?

There is no harm done by laser hair removal procedure in terms of health, because laser energy is a non-ionizing one. This is the indication that it does not affect cell mutation. All laser hair removal devices used target only the hair follicle.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?

Just after the procedure hair follicles appear more delineated, skip erythema occurs. Such side effects appear almost after every laser application. Nevertheless, side effects ( redness) disappear in a 1 to 3 hours time, rarely in 24 hours time.  Laser applied area must definitely be protected from direct sun light for 7 to 15 days. And again, in order for the laser treatment to be allied after sunbathing a period of at least 3 weeks must be expected to pass before the treatment. Otherwise, the tan will be more likely to absorb the laser light, causing discoloration as main risk.

In how many sessions is the laser hair removal procedure done?

Depending on elements such as the hair type, colour, area, skin tone affect the possible number of sessions. While on pale skin-toned individuals with dark and thick hairs session numbers are reduced, on light-skinned/ thin haired/ dark skin toned individuals sessions may increase. On average, 4 to 6 sessions may be sufficient for pigmented thick hair.

According to what are laser hair removal session intervals arranged?

Main factor for laser hair removal is the existence of sufficient hair quantity, because laser sends it’s thermal light to the root through hair corps. During the post-treatment period in 15 days time hair over laser process area shed.  The further coming output of hair is expected for the next laser session to be arranged. This period varies between 6 to 8 weeks. In some individual cases the output period of hair may be delayed until 10 to 12 weeks.

Can laser hair removal procedures applied for every skin tone and hair type?

Laser hair removal procedures can be applied over different skin and hair types with different removal techniques and application setting methods.
